A post-doctoral position is available at the University of New Hampshire in the laboratory of Dr. Louis S. Tisa. We are currently interested in genome-wide approaches toward environmental microbiology and host-microbe interactions in symbiosis and pathogenesis.  Since the postdoctoral position is funded through the New Hampshire Agricultural Experimental Station (NH AES), the individual must work on objectives under my Hatch project NH637.  However, I am fairly flexible and my NHAES project was developed as a research program that encompasses several different aspects of the Frankia-actinorhizal plant symbiosis. The following four objectives of the project are: (1) identify and clarify the roles that natural products play in the life style of Frankia, (2)  To investigate the effects of harsh environmental stress on Frankia physiology and global gene expression , (3) studies on the plant-microbe interactions for Frankia genotype III isolates and non-Frankia actinobacteria endophytes (Nocardia sp.) of actinorhizal plants, and (4) develop Genetic Tools for Frankia.

The position starts on October 1st, 2015 and is fully funded for 2 years (Sept 30, 2017).  There is the potential of continuing if I can get further funding. I am looking for a 2 year commitment and am accepting applications now. Salary is 40-45K (US) per year, and has fringe benefits. I am looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in microbial physiology, microbial genetics and genomics, plant physiology, or symbiosis research. Experience in comparative genomics, transcriptomics or proteomics would be an advantage. Some bioinformatics skills are needed. The candidate should have completed a PhD degree in Microbiology or related field (or anticipation of completion of PhD by summer 2015) with excellent skills in spoken and written English.

Please submit a letter briefly summarizing research interests and experience, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references to louis.tisa@unh.edu. Applications will be accepted until July 20, 2015.
