Description of executive positions:


President:  The President is the chief executive officer of the ISS and therefore shall preside at all meetings of the council and the ISS in general.  The President shall perform other duties typical of the office.  The President shall be an ex officio voting member of all committees.  With agreement of a majority of the council the President shall appoint the Chairs of committees.  Committee chairs will nominate committee members which must be approved by the President.


Vice President (Website):  The Vice President shall oversee and maintain the ISS website, work with conference organizers and other executives to post pertinent information.


Vice Presidents (2 for Education):  These Vice Presidents will work with ISS membership to develop instructional information and post symbiosis lectures on the website for member use.


Secretary: The Secretary shall maintain the records of the ISS, including the minutes of all meetings of the ISS and the council.  The Secretary shall conduct the correspondence of the ISS, shall maintain the manual detailing the duties of each office, receive committee and other reports and distribute the reports as is appropriate prior to the annual business meeting.  The Secretary shall serve as the chair of the bylaws committee.  The Secretary shall act as the keeper of the bylaws and shall make note of problems or improvements required in the bylaws.  The Secretary shall draft new amendments or suspensions for review.


Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be responsible for all financial affairs of the ISS.  The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining accurate records of all monies and disbursements made on vouchers signed by the appropriate person responsible for such expenditures and within the limits specifically defined by the council.  The Treasurer will co-sign with the President or other society officer as required for exceptions to limits defined by the council.  The treasurer is responsible for filing all appropriate forms with the government as required by law.  The Treasurer shall present a financial report at the annual business meeting and at other times that the council may specify.  The Treasurer shall obtain an annual independent audit of the ISS finances.  The treasurer shall be bonded and the cost of the bond and the insurance shall be incurred by the ISS.


Councilors: Councilors shall represent the general membership directly by being a local representative.
