The Symbiosis Department at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany (http://www.mpi-bremen.de/en/Department_of_Symbiosis.html) invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist to work on comparative genomics of deep-sea chemosynthetic symbionts. This project is funded by an ERC Advanced Grant to Nicole Dubilier to study the ecology and evolution of chemosynthetic symbioses in deep-sea Bathymodiolus mussels. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in microbial ecology, geomicrobiology, or symbiosis research. Experience in comparative genomics or metagenomics is essential, as are solid bioinformatics skills. Experience in transcriptomics or proteomics would be an advantage. The candidate should have completed a PhD degree in Microbiology or related field with excellent skills in spoken and written English.

At the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, microbiologists, molecular biologists and biogeochemists work together to understand basic principles of marine microbial ecology. The MPI offers state-of-the art research infrastructure and a highly collaborative working atmosphere. The language of the Max Planck Institute is English.

We offer a 2 year full-time appointment. The salary is according to the German system for public employees (E 14 TVöD ).
